Undertaken new challenges

I always really enjoyed playing volleyball, but usually only did so on the beach or recreationally with friends. This activity was much more serious than that, which was challenging but also really beneficial. Working to improve my skills and play a better game made me look forward to using these skills in an organized competition with another team. I learned that I also perform well in competition despite never having practiced this before.

Worked collaboratively with others

Volleyball, unlike running and going to the gym is not an individual sport. Your personal skills, though important in the tactics of the game are not nearly as important as knowing how to work with other people in a team. Your skills are only as strong as your ability to use them to support others. Playing volleyball seriously really taught me to use the skills and strengths of other people on my team to

Undertaken new challenges

I bought a gym membership to work on another kind of fitness that jogging can’t necessarily give me. Working on muscle strength is something I could achieve with the equipment at a prefessional gym. With the help of instructors at the gym,

Planned and initiated activities

I scheduled times at the gym where I could work with and take advice from an instructor. This kind of professional help really taught me how to create my own fitness program, so if I join another gym in the future, I know what kind of exercises I need to do. Planning this in advance really encouraged me to take out a cuople hours and go to the gym whenever I had time.

Developed new skills

Using machines and weights at the gym taught me skills I could not have acquired by running in my spare time. I learned a different kind of training that I also hope to continue through university and in the future. I now know how to create my own workout program and follow it on my own.

Increased awareness of strengths and areas for growth

Before undertaking jogging as a part of my CAS program, I hated running. I knew it wasn’t a particular skill of mine. Despite this, I took the time and energy to improve. By the end I know I have made improvements I would never have made with my previous attitude. Outside of the CAS program, I now want to keep running as a kind of fitness in my life on a day-to-day basis. I discovered that I feel a lot better after running. Though its just a personal passtime, I have made progress both physically and mentally in regards to staying healthy and active.

Shown perseverance and comittment in their activities

It took a really long time to get used to the diea of running on a regular basis. However, towards the end I started to look forward to running. Taking out half an hour or more from my day wasn’t always fun, but that half hour makes a lot of difference in the long term.

Acquired new skills

From hating exercise to running regularely, I have made a lot of progress that I hope to carry with me throughout my life. I now have a form of fitness that I can do anywhere. It doesn’t require any equipment or a trainer, its just something I can do when I feel stressed to stay healthy.
